Charlie Stross on the life and death of the PDA. Usually I’d post this on delicious, but there’s a lot I want to quote. Newton was John Sculley’s pet project, allegedly started after a high-level Apple meeting in which he realized everyone present was using a Cambridge Z88, and said “why don’t we make one of those?” The sorry truth is, PDAs are a commercial...

Pitchfork's 20 worst album covers of 2008. →
(via binkythedoormat) Some of these look like they’d fit in with the storm of naive design dross that fills up fffound. (Oh, and the Santogold cover sucks.)

ffffound / ddddownload
In a moment of procrastination, I noticed that ddddownload (previously) was at the top of the delicious home page (with 150+ links). Noting a mention of swissmiss, I saw her post about it, and this comment: FFFFFound is a pretty lousy company as they disregard copyright laws. WatchWatch
Sit Down, Stand Up from Glenn Marshall While watching this, I had a funny feeling it was very similar to the official video. It turns out it was shown as a band-approved at Antenna at the BFI. No wonder it seemed familiar.

WatchWatch
Matt Biddulph’s test of his Canon 5D mkII’s video capabilities, shot in Hackney. I posted this here while answering this query on the Flickr API group about embedding QuickTime video for the iPhone. Seems to work, although I’m having trouble with the object and embed tag syntax. (Also, Apple recommend writing them with JavaScript now. What a faff. No wonder Flash won.)

It's not what the papers say, it's what they don't →
headlessness: More from Ben Goldacre’s excellent Bad Science column in the Guardian, this time on the incredible media misinformation on the MMR vaccine. “On Tuesday the Telegraph, the Independent, the Mirror, the Express, the Mail, and the Metro all reported that a coroner was hearing the case of a toddler who died after receiving the MMR vaccine, which the parents blamed for their loss....

Tumblr API updated →
[this is good] - although it might be nice for third-party apps to have an OAuth rather than username/password method for logging in. Ah well, maybe next time? staff: We’ve added some new features to the Tumblr API: Edit and delete posts Authenticated reading to include private posts Convenient login behavior for embedded Dashboard browsers AIFF audio format support The optional filter...
