NPR:

Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources has five robotic deer. They’re placed near highways at night and they mimic deer movements. But the deer don’t drop when shot. Instead, an officer emerges to seize the violator’s gun.

2010book:

The bacon and eggs came from the cold storage to the ovens on a conveyor belt. In the oven, infra-red heat cooked them in seconds.
The tea is made from hot water, taken from a cylinder and mixed with the tea, milk, and sugar from a container.
The toast starts life as ordinary sliced bread. An arm in the toaster picks up the bread and passes it in front of heating elements. When it is toasted, the arm throws you the toast.

Note: There are many more efficient ways to make a slice of toast, but nothing quite as cool as an arm that “throws you the toast” when it’s done.

Forget jetpacks: my future will be here when my robot butler can fling hot buttered bread at me.
This is from Daniel Sinker’s spread by spread reposting of “2010: Living in the Future” by Geoffrey Hoyle.

Robotic ferret will detect hidden drugs and weapons
“Dubbed the ‘cargo-screening ferret’ and designed for use at seaports and airports, the device is being worked on at the University of Sheffield with funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).” Shame it doesn’t look much like a ferret. Ah well.
