A timelapse of the construction of the roof of the new Kings Cross western concourse. I’d rather have embedded the longer BBC version, or their second video of the main railway shed roof renovations, or even the single shot version of the latter at Network Rail, but unfortunately they don’t seem to enable embedding.

If you’re interested in the new station: more words; more pictures; even more pictures. Why there are no water fountains. Previously: my review of new northern concourse of the Underground station.

Multiple exposures of a Playtex panty girdle, 1951. Nicholas de Monchaux, in Spacesuit; Fashioning Apollo:

The story of the Apollo spacesuit is the surprising tale of an unexpected victory: that of Playtex, makers of bras and girdles, over the large military-industrial contractors better positioned to secure the spacesuit contract.

Eirik Solheim:

I’ve had an SLR camera in my window at the same spot for one year. Snapping an image every half hour. Resulting in some pretty nice time lapse videos I’ll post here in a couple of days. But first a still image.
The resolution of the 16 000 images I now have from 2010 are 3888×2592 pixels. So I selected 3888 images snapped during the day. Then I got some generous help from my blog readers and twitter followers. To make a script that would take one line from the first image, the next line from the next image and so on.
It shows one whole year. January at the left and December to the right.

Lubrecht Stars, by Scott Sharick:

Our class at RMSP spent the last two days at the Lubrecht Experimental Forest working on our commercial shooting skills. Thursday evening we had a barbecue and campfire. I set up a time lapse looking straight up through the trees with a view of the stars and the Milky Way. You can see when wood was added to the fire by the light on the trees.

Church and 30th St. San Francisco MUNI Construction (by Ken Murphy)

Impressive stuff. It helps to pique my interest that this is not far down the road from my new flat. I kind of regret not going down to have a look (although the view wouldn’t have been as good as this and it would just have been noisy, probably).
